rewriting the story

Today, our element of God’s character in focus is “Author” – and this morning as we prayed for the Geneva II Syria peace talks, we cried out to God the Author, asking him to rewrite the story over Syria.

We prayed that instead of desperation and despair, a new story of redemption and restoration would be written over this battered and bruised nation; and that instead of bitterness and hatred, hope and healing would be written on the hearts of those fighting. For just as God the Author can change the story, so too can he reform every character.

Join us in praying for a new story to start for Syria today:

Creator God, Author of eternity,
You have written your story of love on our hearts.
And today with our hearts grieving,
We cry out for peace in a land torn apart by hatred and bloodshed.
Please come and write a new story of love on the hearts of those who fight,
Softening, forgiving, redeeming, restoring.

Creator God, Author of eternity,
You have written your story of hope on our hearts.
And today with our hearts seeking,
We ask you for breakthrough in the meeting rooms of power.
Please come and write a new story of hope on the hearts of those who negotiate,
Guiding, leading, redeeming, restoring.

Creator God, Author of eternity,
You have written your story of joy on our hearts.
And today with our hearts full,
We dare to believe that you can comfort those who have lost everything in this war.
Please come and write a new story of joy on the hearts of those who mourn,
Healing, helping, redeeming, restoring.

Until the story of Syria sings once again with your love, hope and joy.
Amen.
