for mothers’ day…

We’ve just uploaded a new resource: Kinnecting to God’s heart for mothers and mothering is a collection of ten creative prayer stations you can use in part or full to intercede for mothers and mothering. We used them for the first time this morning and found it a poignant experience. One of our pray-ers wrote the following written prayer in response:

mothering

A prayer for mothers’ days

God in our waking, be near all who nurture life in its beginnings,
Strengthening, protecting and guiding.
For you form each child in the womb, and formed mother in womb when she was still child –
And you form her still, through hopes and tears, answered prayers and promises still to come.
Love away the fear of all whose pregnancies are charged with anxiety,
And speak courage for all questioning whether they can continue.
God in our waking – be with all emerging mothers today and every day.

God in our preparations for the day, be near all mothers who are raising children,
Strengthening, protecting and guiding.
Into the busyness, the multi-tasking, the work-life balancing and the plate-spinning;
Into the spur of the moment decisions and the lasting questions –
Breathe your wisdom and peace.
And as doors shut and a moment of quiet brings self-accusation or guilt –
Speak your grace, forgiveness and love.
God in our preparations for each day, be with all busy mothers; encouraging them as they encourage their children today and every day.

God in our twilight of in between, be with all who are releasing children,
Strengthening, protecting and guiding.
Into the torn-between of nurture-protect and stretch-release,
And the pain of letting go even whilst yearning for child to be adult and fulfilled –
Bring your encircling presence to comfort and envision for future possibilities.
God in our twilight of in between, be with all releasing mothers, holding them still tighter through the re-balancing they face.

God in our sleeping and not sleeping, be with all would-be or once-were mothers
Who are longing for life or grieving for its departure;
And all who lie awake worrying about circumstances or threats to their children.
God of all comfort, who sees each mother as daughter,
Sings over them with rejoicing and has a plan to weave beauty from ashes,
Come close.
Strengthen, protect and guide.
God in our sleeping and not sleeping, be with all women who grieve, singing your lullaby of hope and bringing them to rest in you.
