praying for Bangladesh

Our hearts are heavy over Bangladesh today – http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-22289362. We’re mourning with survivors, praying for the rescue attempts, and continuing to cry out to God for the transformation of unjust trade practices and a better future for this nation as a whole.

God of comfort, come.
We have few words to offer today –
But we stand and mourn with Dhaka.

Saving God, come.
Be with those who search through the rubble –
Guide them to those who still cling to life and to all who are trapped – so they may be honoured and remembered in dignity.

God of justice, come.
For enough is enough and the garment industry must be held to account –
People are what must be valued. Not profit.

God of all nations, come.
Open our eyes to see that Bangladesh must not keep paying for our lifestyles –
But instead we must seek to restore to it all that we have stolen – overtly and covertly – for our own gain.

God of all hope, come.
Grow beauty from ashes, and prosperity from poverty –
For you can do this and we trust you to rebuild even here.
