celebrating Fairtrade

Today marks the start of Fairtrade Fortnight (27 Feb – 11 March) and we’d like to invite you to join with us in giving thanks for the work of the Fairtrade Foundation.

By making sure a fair price is paid to producers, the Fairtrade system encourages responsible business and helps tackle the global injustices of our economic system. You can read more about the Fairtrade Foundation and Fairtrade Fortnight via their blog. You can also do something practical by joining their campaign to take a step for Fairtrade.

Traidcraft, the UK’s leading Fairtrade organisation, is running Big Brew 2012, encouraging churches, groups and individuals to host an awareness-raising event showing how Fairtrade brings hope to producers across the world. They’ve also produced worship resources for individual or corporate use.

The story of Fairtrade shows how one small action can lead to a sea change in opinion and behaviour. We believe that time spent on our knees in prayer – something that often feels like a small action – leads to big change, as God responds to act through us and around us. Read more about this in the Worship in Action section of the Sanctuary’s website, especially our article on How to be a part of the answer to your prayers.

Above all, we give thanks for the Fairtrade movement and for the passion for justice that surrounds it – and we pray for more – for an end to unfair trade practices that lock people into poverty and for a new global economy to be built that values people over profit.
