faith to make a world of difference

Today, we are on our way to Taunton, Somerset. Liz is leading the worship, and a workshop on worship and justice, for The World Mission Group of the Bath and Wells Diocese’s conference, Faith to make a world of difference.

It’s a real privilege to be able to help Elizabeth Perry – friend, and former Christian Aid colleague and part of the World Mission Group for the Bath and Wells Diocese –  in putting on this conference to inspire clergy and lay people to explore the Millenium Development Goals in the context of our faith, and the Christian mandate to love the world.

We’re excited about the chance to be inspired ourselves too by Suzanne Matale (General Secretary of the Council of Churches in Zambia), Charley Thomas (Dean of Lusaka Cathedral, Zambia) and Rachel Carnegie (the Archbishhop of Canterbury’s Secretary for International Development) who will all be speaking.

The title of this conference couldn’t be more apt, just a week  after a joint report from UNICEF and the World Health Organisation announced a significant drop in child mortality rates from 12 million in 1990 to 7.6 million last year. Praise God for all the organisations, community groups, and individuals working to improve health-care in some of the world’s poorest countries. Read the BBC’s report here.

Together, as we pray and act in love, and with faith, we can, and do, make a difference.
